2009 Teton Volleyball Teams

2009 August 15
by admin

Hi All,

We really want to congratulate everyone on a great two days. We are impressed with the baseline skills and saw some good fitness level with many of you today. It’s with a heavy heart that we did make a few cuts. The girls who were cut had great attitudes but we were just worried that with their grade level in school and the way the teams shook out that they just wouldn’t get enough playing time. We would love to have both of you stay involved and if both or either of you want to you can continue to practice with the team but not dress out for games much like Marissa Kunz did last year in basketball. We would just like some help as a “manager” at busy times.

For the rest of you, you will see that there is not yet a clear distinction between the C and JV teams and we have elected to keep a large number on the C team and move up people as they improve and prove themselves ready for JV. We hope this inspires you to work hard while continuing to keep great attitudes and spirit of teamwork.

Varsity: (8)

Ashley Luker, Shantel McCashland, Julie Robinson, Rebecca Ross, Aubree Street, Metayia Farmer, Lannie Jorgenson, Payton Larsen

JV: (7)

Sam Boyer, Paige Reiley, Lindsey Rush, Sophia Vickrey, Cheyenne Banta, Shanna Luker, Emily Thompson,

C Team: (13)

Ali Abey, Kayla Gadberry, Sarah Ross, Kaylee Rust, Noemi Sosa, Meghan Wagoner, Mikiah Dansie, Mikiah Eck, Nicole Eck, Keli Jeppson, Jessica Warburton, Kylie Woolstenhulme, Karli Breckenridge

That’s all for now. See you Monday 9-12, 1-2 pm. Bring your lunch…

August 10 Update

2009 August 10

High School Tryouts/Schedule:

Friday, Saturday August 14-15, 9-12 am and 4-5 pm are tryouts, teams will be announced here on Sunday morning. We will follow the same schedule the next week, although by the end of the week we may split up and have one team practice 9-12, another 10-1.

Middle School Tryouts

Monday August 17, 7-9 am

EVERYONE MUST COME WITH A PHYSICAL(9/11 GRADE) OR INTERIM QUESTIONNAIRE (10/12 GRADE) AND INSURANCE WAIVER: FORMS ARE HERE (not sure about middle school kids- assume that all need a physical- contact Debbie at randy_deb@silverstar.com for more information).

Equipment (with links for good prices/Redskin colors)

Everyone must come with a  GOOD court shoe for the NEW floor at the Middle School and refinished floor at the High School. You will not be allowed to play with black-soled shoes. Knee pads and water bottle/snacks are also highly recommended. We also highly recommend Active Ankles for anyone with any ankle problems, and many players without problems use them as well. Running shoes are mandatory for the 4-5 pm High School practice as we will be outside.

Rule Changes for 2009

Just so you all know what’s going on when watching the games:

1) Contact with any part of the body is allowable- yes this means feet, and it can be intentional… maybe we’ll recruit some soccer players. Ha Ha

2) As of last year, Libero can serve in one position.

3) Head coach can now stand and pace between the 10 foot line and end line. Asst. coaches may not, nor can they call time-outs, etc.

4) Teton High: The school board has approved a proposal by coaches and administrators that limits athletes to one sport per season, and classified both Cheer and Drill as a sport. We have a couple of seniors “grandfathered” in this year who will be allowed to do both as long as there are NO conflicts. In light of this, we hope everyone will understand that it is not only drill but FFA and other extra-curricular optional activities that we expect to have no conflict with volleyball. We are excited about the positive influence this will have on all the sports and the health of our female athletes.

HELP!

As always we are looking for parent and fan support at games. We NEED TWO SCOREKEEPERS to help us out. Most teams have adults performing this duty and it makes things move along much better and benefits the players, coaches, and referees. Anyone interested? There is a training in Idaho Falls in a few weeks. We are also looking for a MANAGER or TWO if you know anyone.

Thanks for reading this far. See you Friday or Monday!

July Open Gyms, Conditioning, Tryout Update, Camps

2009 July 16
by admin

Hey All-

There is lots of important information so please read all the way through this post.

A big thanks to everyone who participated in camp and to Lyndsey, Catherine, and Dayna for all their help. It was really fun and Erika and I are super impressed with everyone’s skills.

OPEN GYMS: 7:00 Conditioning, 7:30 Play

The next few weeks we will have open gyms outside due to re-surface of the gym floor. If it is raining, we will be at Old Middle School. Bring bug spray! Remember, MS kids are welcome!

Catherine and Lyndsey will be leading the open gyms all the way up to the 13th of August. (Erika and I can only do them through the 1st of August do to Idaho Athletic Assn. rules).

TRAINING

ALSO we will be doing conditioning BEFORE so meet at the weight room in back of High School at 7:00 pm sharp. (go through girls locker room connected to the gym) I will go over exercises that will help prevent knee injuries and we will do some jump training. For all of you at camp and your parents: these exercises are designed to help the 90% of the girls who showed some weakness in their jumping stability during camp.

For tryouts: you will be tested on the following exercises:

Dot Jump, Plank Walk Up, Mini Leg Blaster.
You can find a video on how to do all of these exercises here or learn at the 7:00 training. Here are your goals:
Dot Jump- 3 times of 3 repetions per exercise
Mini Leg Blaster- 5 of each exercise, a series of 3 times
Plank Walk Up- 1 minute x 3 times.

SO: to train 3 times per week you need to try to get as many of
these as possible. Everyone is at a different level, so do what is
appropriate for you. You will be highly rewarded if you are in
shape when tryouts start.

PARENTS ARE WELCOME TO TRAIN WITH US!

REMEMBER: THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A GOOD ATHLETE AND A GREAT ONE IS
THE GREAT ONE WORKS HARD WHEN NO ONE IS LOOKING!

play ball in the gym 9-12 am from Friday, Aug 14-15 tryouts
through the next week, and from 4-5 pm each day we will watch
videos and condition. Please plan accordingly.
